Lodging and Meals
Participants will be lodged in single rooms in 2-4 person apartments built in 2010 to LEED Gold Certification on the beautiful Allegheny College campus. Rooms come complete with linens*. Accessible apartments are available. Participants or teams with requests for shared apartments will be honored as possible.
Arrangements can be made for family members accompanying a participant, pending prior approval.

For those traveling overseas or coordinating regional visits, on-campus housing is available from Friday, June 16 through Friday, June 23.
​
Participants will have guest access to the Wise Center Recreational Complex, including indoor track, weight room, aerobic equipment, indoor pool, raquetball courts, basketball courts, and yoga / dance rooms, as well as the Robertson Field complex for outdoor trails and tracks. Participants will have guest access to campus wifi and library facilities.
​
*While the rooms come with basic linens, they are not hotel rooms. We can supply additional blankets, pillows, and towels, as needed, but you should consider bringing necessary toiletries, hairdryers, and your own linens if preferred.

Driving to Campus
For those coordinating regional visits, on-campus housing is available from Friday, June 16 through Friday, June 23. Participants are responsible for their own transportation costs.

Driving Directions (I-80):
​
Allegheny College is approximately 30 minutes from both I-90 and I-80, and directly off I-79 in Meadville, Pennsylvania.
​

Travel on I-79 to Exit 147A. Continue on Route 322 East, and take the Park Avenue Exit on the right (after exit, stay left).

Follow Park Avenue for six traffic lights to Chestnut Street and turn right.

At the next stop sign, continue to the left and travel around Diamond Park. At the other side of the park, veer right onto North Main Street.

After two lights on North Main Street, veer to the right and continue up the hill.

Pass the Patricia Bush Tippie Alumni Center on your right (please yield to pedestrians at the crosswalks), and at the final (11th) gold Allegheny banner, make an immediate left after the 454 House, home of the Office of Admissions, to locate visitor parking.

Flying to Campus
For those coordinating regional visits or flying internationally, on-campus housing is available from Friday, June 16 through Friday, June 23. Participants are responsible for their own transportation costs.

We will provide a fee-based shuttle to and from the Pittsburgh International Airport ($25 per person one way) that will operate on the schedule listed below. We recommend that you try to schedule your flight so you arrive shortly before a shuttle to avoid long waits in the airport or additional costs of individual transportation to campus.

The tentative shuttle schedule ($25 per person one way) to and from Pittsburgh International Airport - Allegheny College campus is provided below. The drive is approximately 2 hours, and minimum TSA allotted time is 1 hour, so please plan flights accordingly.

Other airports: If you would like to fly in and out of other airports to accommodate additional regional travel, we have included regional airports and travel time. If you choose to rent a car for one-way use, we have a local Enterprise facility in Meadville for drop off.

Once accepted, participants will complete a travel and lodging form. Prior to the Summer Institute, a coordinater will reach out to all participants to finalize flight/shuttle schedules and check-in times for those driving to campus.
About Meadville, PA
A small town in northwest Pennsylvania, Meadville is a hidden gem. A wide variety of local restaurants, outdoor nature attractions, local art galleries, and close proximity to big cities make Meadville a great location for a short summer excursion. Downtown is a historical area very close to campus with numerous eateries and shops. A number of restaurants support the local farm-to-plate movement, including the nationally known Voodoo Brewery, 1776, Julian's, and the Market House Grille. Be sure not to miss local patisseries like Confections of a Cake Lover and Twin Pies. Meadville is located at the edge of a rich vineyard region, and visitors can check out nearby wineries along the Lake Erie Wine Trail or the French Creek Wine and Artisan Trail. To get outdoors, participants can hike in the woods adjacent to the Woodcock Dam nature area or head to nearby state and local parks such as McConnell's Mill, Panama Rocks, or Lake Pymatuning. A yearly summer activity that attracts visitors from around the country is the Thurston Classic Hot Air Balloon Festival (pictured above, Thur Jun 15 - Sun 18, 2017) which is hosted at the College's Robertson Field Athletic Complex the weekend prior to the 2017 Summer Institute!
